Mobilizy Announces WIKITUDE.me and Developer API
One of original winning apps of the initial Android Developers Challenge, Wikitude is rightfully the first name we think of when it comes to Augmented Reality. The team behind the app, Mobilizy GmbH, recently announced enhancements to their award winning mobile AR platform with a focus on end users. Further, and more importantly, they are opening their application-programming interface (API) for developers.
The enhanced WIKITUDE Mobile AR Platform consists of three components:
WIKITUDE World Browser – The original mobile AR browser and travel guide. It’s convenient for planning trips, looking up landmarks and more. Using a combination of camera, GPS, and accelerometer, the app pulls up over 350,000 world-wide points of interest.
WIKITUDE.me – Wiki-tag your world (user generated geo-tagging portal). The website will become a community of mobile AR users who help to embed unique points of interest (POI) and location-specific, hyperlinked media content which can be viewed on the WIKITUDE World Browser. Think of it as a Wikipedia of the world that shows real time results.
WIKITUDE API – Build your own augmented reality application. Currently available in a closed beta, the API gives developers the neccesary tools to create their own AR apps. Games, social networking, weather, and much more are able to take advantage of their technology.
